Kate’s role is a Seating & AT (Assistive Technology) Specialist for Wheelchairs Express. Kate’s aim is to support people to live their best lives through powered mobility solutions and optimal positioning for independence.
Kate completed her Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) at the University of Sydney in 1999 and has gained experience in both Australia and the United Kingdom over a period of 18 years. She has worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, rehabilitation units, community and private practice.
As a senior occupational therapist, Kate has extensive experience in complex wheelchair seating and prescription, manual handling, environmental modifications and complex activities of daily living assessments. Kate has worked in the community as a senior wheelchair seating specialist, assessing, prescribing and fabricating custom postural supports for children and adults with complex postural support and pressure care requirements.
Kate has a broad range of experience garnered as a registered occupational therapist in the United Kingdom, within acute and rehabilitation hospital and community settings, including stroke, brain injury, neurological conditions, medical/surgical/oncology, cardiology, infectious diseases, orthopaedic, prosthetics rehabilitation and care of the elderly caseloads. Expertise in activities of daily living assessment, manual handling, environmental modifications, recommending packages of care and carer training was solidified in both hospital and community roles.
Early in her career, Kate worked within NSW Health Service, providing occupational therapy services within a community mental health team, supporting adults in achieving their goals in the home, workplace and community. Kate also worked in the occupational rehabilitation sector, addressing the needs of injured workers under the WorkCover NSW system. Services provided in this role include worksite/ergonomic assessments, functional capacity evaluations, activities of daily living assessments, case management, and training both individually and in a group setting.
Kate is committed to ensuring her skills and knowledge remain up-to-date and reflect current best practice, through membership with Occupational Therapy Australia and regularly participating in continuing professional development activities. Kate completed a Graduate Certificated in Clinical Education in 2013, and enjoys mentoring and supervising occupational therapists and students.
